ファランジュ（Phalange）

ファランジュ（Phalange） フランスの思想家、シャルル・フーリエは農業を中心に生産と消費の自律したサイクルによる２０ ００人程度の「アソシエーション」（ファランジュ）を作ろうとしましたが、実現することがで きず、晩年は困窮の中で亡くなりました。しかし、この理想郷を作ろうとした運動と思想はピエー ル・プルードンといった近代アナーキズムに影響を与えました。アーティストへの影響も大きく、 ベルリン・ダダのヨハネス・バーダーは全人類のための記念碑（Monument of All of Mankind） を提唱し、レトリスト・インターナショナルのジル・イヴァンはハシエンダ（The Hacienda）を、 そしてシチュアシオニスト・インターナショナルのコンスタント・ニーヴェンホイス（Constant　 Nieuwenhuys）のニューバビロン（New Babylon）へと受け継がれていきました。 これらアーティストたちと同時代に生きたフランスの哲学者、アンリー・ルフェーブルは私たちの なにげなく生活する日常空間を、社会、国家といった政治的諸力によって作為的に生産されてい るものと捉えました。合理性を現実的なものへと還元し、即時的な欲求充足によって枯れていく 批判的想像力は、日常生活において、どのように取り戻すことができるのでしょうか。 本展では、資本と国家が収奪しつつある空間に対し、芸術が、いかにしてカウンター・スペースと なりえるのかを検討し、今日におけるイデオロギーや新植民地主義、ディストピアとユートピア、 疎外といった側面を照らし出す作品を紹介します。

Phalange

The French thinker Charles Fourier endeavored to establish an ‘phalange’ comprising approximately 2,000 individuals, primarily engaged in agriculture, for production and consumption. However, he was unable to actualize this vision and spent his later years in poverty. Nonetheless, the movement and ideas that aspired to create this utopia significantly influenced the development of modern anarchism, exemplified by figures such as Pierre Proudhon. The impact on artists was also profound, with Johannes Baader of  Berlin Dada advocating for a Monument of All Mankind, Gilles Ivain(Ivan Chtcheglov)of the Letterist International creating The Hacienda, and New Babylon conceived by Constant Nieuwenhuys of the Situationist International.

The French philosopher Henri Lefebvre, a contemporary of these artists, perceived the everyday spaces in which we live casually as being shaped by political forces such as society and the state. How can the critical imagination, which diminishes rationality to the practical and withers in the face of immediate gratification, be recaptured in everyday life?

This exhibition presents works that illuminate aspects of ideology, postcolonialism dystopia, utopia, and alienation in contemporary society, aiming to explore how art can become a counter-space to the areas expropriated by capital and the state.

Drawing Architecture Studio（Han Li, Yan Hu with Zhang Xintong, Ji Jiawei, Liu Liyuan, Yuan Ruizhe, Ye Zichen）

Sachiko Kazama is a Japanese artist who, through extensive research, explores the past and present of contemporary society using black humor and satire. Employing manga-like motifs, she portrays absurd and nonsensical characters, thereby illuminating the dark and concealed facets of society.

Jen Liu is a Brooklyn, New York-based artist who weaves together past and present controversies from socio-economic and political landscapes to create compelling narratives.

Michael Rakowitz is an Iraqi-American artist based in Chicago, renowned for presenting conceptual art outside of traditional gallery settings. He serves as a Professor of Art Theory and Practice at Northwestern University.

Kyohei Sakaguchi is a Japanese architect, writer, and artist. He published a report on an architectural investigation of the houses of street dwellers in his graduation thesis and has since produced numerous works based on his fieldwork, beginning with the photographic collection Zero Yen House (2004), which was derived from this report.

Drawing Architecture Studio (DAS), established in 2013 by Li Han and Hu Yan in Beijing, is dedicated to the practice of architectural drawing, architectural design, and urban studies.
