エンパシー・ボックス

倉敷KAGでは、2025年6月1日（日）から7月20日（日）まで、倉敷に縁のある若手アーティスト12名による展覧会「エンパシーボックス」を開催します。本展は、フィリップ・K・ディックのSF小説『アンドロイドは電気羊の夢を見るか？』に登場する「エンパシー・ボックス」に着想を得て、共感、つながり、人間の本質をテーマにしています。

物語では、「エンパシー・ボックス」が宗教的・精神的体験である「マーサー教」の信仰を通じて人々を結びつけますが、その信仰が虚構と暴露されても、共感の力によって人々が繋がる過程が描かれます。

本展では、このプロセスをポスト・トゥルース時代の現代社会に重ね、若手アーティストがアートを通じて共感の力を再定義します。

ソーシャルメディア、フェイクニュース、AIが創造を含む様々な領域に影響を与える今、絵画、彫刻、インスタレーション、映像などの作品はどのような意味を持つのか、「真実」と「虚構」、「現実」と「信仰」の境界が曖昧になった世界で共感とは何かを問いかけます。

We Are Delighted to announce that exhibition Empathy Box, showcasing the visionary works of 12 young artists deeply rooted in Kurashiki, from June 1 to July 20, 2025, at Kurashiki KAG. Drawing inspiration from Philip K. Dick’s iconic “Empathy Box” in Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, this exhibition delves into the profound themes of empathy, connection, and the essence of being human.

In Dick’s novel, the “Empathy Box” unites people through the shared spiritual experience of “Mercerism,” forging bonds of compassion even when the foundations of their faith are revealed as fiction. This powerful metaphor resonates in our post-truth era, where the boundaries between truth and fiction, reality and belief, blur. Through paintings, sculptures, installations, and videos, these artists redefine empathy in a world shaped by social media, fake news, and artificial intelligence.

What does it mean to create and connect in an age where technology challenges the nature of authenticity? Empathy Box invites you to explore these questions, offering a thought-provoking reflection on the enduring power of human connection through art.
